Sermon Series: Built For This

Something is forming your household right now. And it isn't waiting for you to engage.

The culture around you has a vision for your home, your table, your children's imagination, and your definition of the good life. It is carried by more than screens — it runs through your politics, your ambitions, your fears, your spending, the stories you tell about what success looks like and what safety costs. These forces are not random. They are not neutral. They are patient, resourceful, and they are already inside most of our homes — welcomed in, given the best seat.

Deuteronomy 6 was written for this moment. Ordinary people. Ordinary homes. A world full of competing gods, each one hungry for the household.

God's answer wasn't a political strategy. It was the bayit — the household. The most ordinary institution in civilization and, in his economy, the most contested.

The powers at work in this cultural moment are not indifferent to what happens inside your home. They want it. And the household that refuses — that names God at the table, marks the threshold, begins the morning oriented toward the One who is Lord of all — is not just living differently.

It's fighting back.
